The series Colour-Coded explores the interconnected relationship between the built environment and the sense of belonging. The patterns, isolated from its larger context, encapsulate the geometric shapes and colours found on the entire façade of housing estates. During my stay in Košice, Slovakia, and Nürnberg, Germany, I noticed how many of the typical postwar, concrete apartment blocks were painted in a unique pastel-coloured motif. Not only do the individual designs add colour to the monotonous greyness, but each shape serves as a visual clue to a specific home, decoding the anonymous landscape into patterns which allow its inhabitants to relate to the building they refer to as their home.
