Haus (Altenfurt)
hand-made concertina book
The concertina book 'Haus, Altenfurt' contains twenty-one black & white images representing the same house structure which served as a prototype when in 1921, Nüremberg’s city planners expanded one of the outskirts called Altenfurt, and built a settlement ‘Siedlung’ by implementing these one-family-houses.
In 2023, on my walks through my parents’ neighbourhood, I started to notice a repetition of seemingly the same houses. Shot in a typological manner of the Düsseldorf School, positioned side by side, the subtle differences within the sameness become apparent. Over the years, each family made personal preferences of altering the façade and choosing a different fence, yet the main structure remained unmistakably synonymous with a certain place and time, contributing to one’s sense of belonging.
