London Facades 2013 - 2020

The facades of many terraced houses in London are laced with mysterious appendages. Some showcase the profiles of chimney breasts, while others feature buttresses providing extra support to an end wall. Devoid of windows, they appear surreal and out of place, reminiscent of a dystopian novel.
Rooted in Bechers' style, this monochrome typology distils peculiarities of vernacular architecture. Beyond its documentary function of cataloguing London's facades, side by side, with their relief-like appendages, these facades, convey an ‘accidental beauty’ of ‘anonymous sculptures’.
